Frankenstein: Romanticism

Frankenstein: Romanticism

England had changed in social, economic and political aspects between the late 18th and 19th century that marked an important development in all the world connected with the economy and the art in the country. The most important movement was Romanticism influenced in feelings in relation to the role of spirit, soul and emotions.Besides, poetry a prose caused an important change in literature. In the novel, there was a monster whose feelings were prominent in literature.
To begin, an important tool related with romanticism was emotion. This aspect was quite visible in more than one chapter of Shelly’s novel. For example, when the monster had to interact with human life.He had an influence by the genre because Shelley’s work was one of great merit in romanticism. The creature developed observation and hard work in understanding humanity. He tried to be accepted but he was not acceptable in human society.
The monster felt horror and cruel he realized that he was not a human and he was a monster. He suffered in appearance. He said that if he cannot inspire love he would cause fear. The rebellion of the creature against its creator is a clear message that derived from the irresponsible use of technology and the possible consequences that I could relate with the time of Industrial Revolution.
Poetry and prose were an important aspect to mention in the Romanticism’s era.The writers believed that it was imagination that created a new vision to understand the world and this idea helped to understand human’s feelings where they lived through this.Besides, it could be named as an spontaneous social movement in which it was caused a new thinker’s view in the community.
On the other hand, the Industrial Revolution in which people had more participation and the country was transformed in business expanding literature in the rest of the world. It was generated the free work in a regenerated world in which poets proclaimed the human spirit. Moreover, there was an authentic freedom of the constant search in which it was connected with the way of feeling. For instance, in the book Frankestein should connect their own feelings into the society beacause he was part of an art experiment. He felt like a horrible monster and he was that one.
To conclude, there was an experiment that made reality or fantasy in which different situations were a mixed of extreme emotions and feelings which were one of the main characteristics in Frankenstein’s book related with Industrial Revolution.

Essay."The madness of the king"

  1. watch the film “the madness of the King”
  2. write an argumentative essay on: Britain under rule of a mentally diseased King?
  3. I will check the progress
  4. Ready to publish on

The Elector of Hanover became King, when Queen Anne died, and ascended the throne as George I. The Hanoverian Dynasty came to the power. The three of them had different manners, behaviours and methods. It is said that the first two Kings had many aspects in common while the third was completely different. One simple but convincing aspect is that he was the first Hanoverian King who spoke English as his first language. George III is well known in history books for being the "mad king who lost America". But despite his illness, George III was a dedicated and diligent king, who won the respect of his politicians.

In 1786, The British royal family sees its foundations shaken when its greatest exponent, King George III is attacked by a strange and unknown physical illness that leads to the edge of madness. For this disease, which now is known as porphyria, doctors had no cure or treatment. The film "The Madness of King George" describes the behaviour of King George III during his crises and during periods of stability.

The King suffered from several symptoms suchs as colics and mental alterations and in the meantime, Britain was losing its colonies in North America. Those colonies, then, became a nation. George III refused to lose those lands that promised to be useful for their interests.

The king underwent urine analysis and, as his health grew worse and worse, he was restrained by several guards and Doctor Willis who tried a behavioural treatment after being called by Pitt. Thus, the Parliament, which was divided into George’s supporters and the Prince of Wales’ ones, decided to appoint the king’s eldest son as Regent. The latter had married Maria Fitzherbert, who was a Catholic woman, but it turned out to be an illegal marriage because it had been carried out without the King’s consent.

After reading a journal, Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, George III’s wife, who was very fond of him, went to the place where his husband was confined and warned him about their son’s intentions. Then, the king was allowed to get back and he could interrupt the Prince of Wales’ ascent to power. In the end, despite his son had been a traitor, King George III would provide an income to him.

Although it is hardly likely for people to accept a mentally unstable person to rule the kingdom, George III gained the support of many people. Perhaps it was like that because he seemed like he was a transparent man and really wanted Great Britain to develop more and more.

In conclusion, as we know, the king had a mentally disorder with a serious illness. A ruler must be serious of the importance of the country to support the hopes of people. These kind of people should be really quiet about the control in the country, but it did not happen. The film described the disadvantages of having a king like George and he showed a lot of signs before he died. People realized that they were ruled by an illness king.

Essay: Glorious Revolution

The Glorious Revolution ultimately established the supremacy of parliament over the British monarchy. This period of Glorious Revolution refers to the series of events in 1688-1689 which culminated in the exile of king James II and the accession to the throne of  William and Mary.

Similarities between the articles

Both articles describe the Glorious Revolution when Mary came to England to take the power away.It was culminated of king James II and the accession to the throne of William and Mary.James II made important changes in the relationship with catholic religion and English Monarchy. Moreover, the BBC and the House of Commons  mention the Act of Toleration as an act that garanteed religious to insurance Protestant. The articles mention that after William III and his wife Mary were offered the crown they had to share as an obligation the power with the parliament. Another point in which they agree it is in the fact that the revolution war was as much religious  as political.

Differences between the articles:

According to the House of Common, The Glorious Revolution was considered to be a bloodless and peaceful war, in which William lll  and Mary were invited by letter to rule England. Thus , Parliament established supremacy over the crown, and the monarchy lost royal power. William was considered the rescuer of England, Scotland, and Ireland from slavery and popery, but the parliament did not mention that the revolution was only secured in Ireland and Scotland by force with considerable loss of life. Besides parliament ignored  the extent to which the events constituted  a foreign invasion of England by another European power, the Dutch Republican .On the contrary, they sustained  that James ll abdicated the throne and left it vacant because of that William and Mary were called to rule England.
Another point in which BBC and the parliament disagree was related to the idea that William had invaded  England before he received the letter from those who were against James ll.
As far as the BBC’s view is concerned,it may also be mentioned that it gave an incredible importance to the implications of popery. It explained that ”popery” meant more than just a fear of Catholics and the Catholic Church since it reflected a belief that Catholics were actively plotting the overthrow of Church and state. What is said before is in fact related with another relevant past event, the 5th of November, which marked the heavy way of “plotting” and the overthrow of the popey in the past. The British House of Commons instead barely mentioned popery and the 5th of November in its explanation.
Despite the House of Commons said that Parliament invited William to reign, the BBC’s view opposed to this idea.

To sum up, history varies according to the one who writes it and in general it is believed that history facts are written by those who win. That is the reason why, it is so important and necessary for us to read and also compare different versions so that we are able to reach our own conclusions.

According to what we have read about the Glorious Revolution, and taking into account both views, the BBC’s one and the House of Commons,  we may infer that in fact this revolution was not as glorious as it is called.
